Information on our Associated Organizations
Friends of Lakewood (FOL) is a group of Dads dedicated to enhancing the educational experience of the students at Lakewood Elementary School. Started by a handful of Lakewood Dads in the Fall of 1982, FOL has grown into a large, active group of men who engage the students at Lakewood Elementary in many different ways, including the Math Maniacs Program, the Math Olympiad, the Lakewood Outdoor Learning Area, and the annual Field Day activities. We also provide support for the many different school activities that take place throughout the year, including the Fall Festival, the Science Fair, and the Spring Carnival, and you can even find us serving as crossing guards on!

Lakewood Early Childhood PTA (LECPTA): Founded in 1952, the LECPTA is a friendly group of more than 350 area families. Our mission is to enrich the lives of East Dallas neighborhood children by developing relationships among families as well as supporting our local school. Goals of the LECPTA are to offer friendship and support to families in East Dallas, plan programs promoting effective parenting and happy families, and to provide financial support for educational programs, school equipment and supplies for our area schools -- Lakewood Elementary, J.L. Long, and Woodrow Wilson High School through proceeds from the Lakewood Home Festival. Attended by more than 4,000 patrons annually, the Lakewood Home Festival has raised more than $1 million for local schools since 1976. Last year's Home Festival alone raised over $140,000 for the three schools, setting a new record.

Lakewood Elementary Expansion Foundation (LEEF): Lakewood Elementary school parents, faculty and staff came together years ago to raise the standard of academics at Lakewood Elementary School. Today, Lakewood is an academically exemplary school -- proof of what can happen in an urban public school district when community comes together to affect positive change. This same power of community is behind the current efforts to raise the school's facilities to a level of excellence that will support education reform and academic achievement well in to the future. Thus, LEEF, a 501c3 foundation, was created to pursue a much needed school addition to Lakewood Elementary through a capital campaign. LEEF's purpose is to raise $15 million to fund the construction of an approximately 45,000 square foot addition to the original historic structure. LEEF believes that bringing the private sector together with public schools to affect real, practical and needed change on the local level is a model for the future. We hope our efforts will create a template for others to follow.
