The Lakewood Spring Carnival
By: William Anton Schweizer 4E
This year at the Spring Carnival people said Aloha to lots of fun. The fun included rides like The Swings, a Pirate Ship, and a Fun Slide. This year’s games were basically the same as last years with a candy wheel, candy fishing, putt putt golf, pie toss, dunking booth, and a bunch more fun and games. On the other side of the carnival there was a pass, punt, and kick contest were each contestants total yardage completed was added up to decide the winner.
This year’s theme for the carnival was a Hawaiian theme and before the carnival students could enter a t-shirt design contest. The winner would get to make their drawing into a carnival t- shirt that everyone could buy. The first time for the contest was great and a girl in 4B named Julia van Witzenburg won the contest. The t-shirt she drew had bold letters that said “Lakewood Elementary, Aloha Spring Carnival 2010” with a palm tree by “Spring”, a flower By “Aloha” it’s letters in the water, a wave by “Carnival 2010”. Students could select a blue or orange tie-dye shirt with this cool design.
I want to say a quick thank you to Burger House, St. Pete’s Dancing Marlin, and Bryan Street Tavern for their delicious pizza and burgers. Because of people like everyone who attended the carnival and played games and bought auction items, this year was one of the most successful years of the carnival ever with over $18,000 raised for the school and the PTA.!!! That’s just awesome and amazing at the same time! If you didn’t come to the carnival this year you have to and I mean have to come to it next year, so the PTA and the school can raise more money than this year and the most important thing, have fun.
