NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

Lakewood Elementary School Family movie night this Friday, April 5th 6:15-8:30 PM. The event will serve pizza and treats, all for free! We will start the movie, ELEMENTAL, at 6:30 PM. Please bring a blanket for your family to spread on the sport court.

Lakewood can’t wait to eclipse!

Lakewood is gearing up for a celestial spectacle unlike any other. With the rare total solar eclipse set to pass over Dallas on Monday, we have some great learning opportunities for our students.

The partial eclipse will begin at 12:23 p.m., Totality is 1:41-1:44, and the partial eclipse ends at 3:02 p.m. The campus is buzzing with excitement as students and faculty prepare for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our school day will be slightly modified to make sure everyone is outside during Totality and engaging in some great observations. Students and staff will be equipped with eclipse glasses, thanks to the Perot Museum.

Don't forget to send back your opt-out form or student agreement form! If you have not received your pre-ordered solar eclipse t-shirt, please reach out to Ms. Nowakowski (brmckinney@dallasisd.org). Thank you to Ms. Davila, Ms. Nowakowski, and our amazing PTA for organizing and leading this momentous event on our campus!

Some grade level room reps have been collaborating with teachers to create special eclipse themed snack bags. Room reps and teachers have followed the same guidelines we use for all community snacks and birthday treats. This means that all snacks included in the snack bags do not include nuts. However, we cannot ensure that all products were not manufactured in a facility that processes nut products. The graphic above is an example of the types of snacks that will be included in the snack bags. If your child has any dietary restrictions, or you have any concerns about the contents of the snack bags, We encourage you to reach out to to your room rep to see exactly what kind of snacks are included in your child's homeroom and send an alternate snack if needed.

Thank you to our amazing Assistant Principals Ms. Bentley and Ms. James for their dedication and leadership at Lakewood! Happy Assistant Principals Week!

Important Update Regarding Magnet School Bus Pick-Up Times at Lakewood Elementary

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We understand the importance of a safe and efficient transportation system for all students.  Over the past few years, the increasing number of magnet school students using Lakewood Elementary as a bus stop has created a congested environment during the 7:40-8:00 am window. With this window of time also being the peak arrival for Lakewood Elementary students, it has raised concerns from parents, community members, and school officials about student safety.

A thorough safety evaluation conducted by the Dallas ISD transportation office identified high traffic volume and limited drop-off areas for parents during this timeframe. This congestion has resulted in unsafe situations where students may have to walk between moving vehicles.

To prioritize student safety, we will be adjusting the bus pick-up time for Travis and Sudie campuses, at Lakewood Elementary to 7:30 am for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.  We understand that this may disrupt existing routines, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Benefits of this Change:

  • Improved student and community safety by reducing congestion during peak arrival times.
  • Continued use of Lakewood Elementary as a bus stop.
  • Travis/Sudie campus is aware of the change and will have staff available to receive students upon their earlier arrival.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in prioritizing the safety of our students. We will continue to monitor the situation and communicate any further updates as needed.

A heartfelt thank you for your dedication to our Kids Heart Challenge at Lakewood Elementary! We're immensely proud of our students for wholeheartedly embracing this program—learning, helping, and cultivating vital life-skills along the way.

Together, we achieved:

  • Check out our results! http://www2.heart.org/goto/LakewoodElementaryDallasTX

  • 362 students joined our Kids Heart Challenge team - incredible!

  • ALL students had the opportunity to learn about heart health during PE Classes, with 81 students taking it to the next level and completing Finn’s Mission. By completing this mission, students learned Hands-Only CPR, and learned how to spot a stroke F.A.S.T.

  • As of Monday, April 1, we’ve raised an AMAZING $65,055.366 donations for our goal, making us the #3 school in ALL of TX, AR, WY, OK, CO, and NM!

The Siqueiros family shares their gratitude. Raising funds and awareness for the American Heart Association has impacted each of their three children as they all navigated a congenital heart defect.

Plus, did you know you can DOUBLE your impact AND your student's fundraising total?

You can double your gift by checking to see if your employer will match your donation. Follow the steps and forward the confirmation to matchinggifts@heart.org to have this added to the student’s fundraising page. ( https://www2.heart.org/site/SPageNavigator/aha_matchpro_landing.html).

Any additional donations will be sent to the American Heart Association and your student’s post-event Thank You Gifts will be ordered soon! THANK YOU AGAIN LAKEWOOD FOR HAVING HEART!
