 | I hope you all had a wonderful Fall Break and had a chance to relax, turn off your alarm, and not worry about GroupMe or homework. October is in full swing, and we have lots of fun things for our community that you don't want to miss.
Fall Fest, this Sunday, October 19 from 2-6, is one of my favorite events because it appeals to all ages, Pre-K to grandparents. The weather forecast looks perfect for Sunday! From traditions like Billy Buttons and Cake Walk to new events like the talent show, there is something for everyone.  Our Fall Fest Chairs, Megan Townsend and Kristen Scavuzzo and their awesome committee, have been hard at work planning Fall Fest for months to be sure that we have something for all to enjoy. We are still in need of donations for the ever popular Cake Walk and volunteers to help before, during and after the event (don't forget the All Campus Clean Up afterward). All Fall Fest information and sign ups can be found here.  If you preordered shirts and wristbands, they will be going home today with your student.
The next community event is Movie Night on November 14, sponsored by Skylar Champion Real Estate Group. I can't wait to see all of the Stallion Strong Lakewood folding chairs lined up across our sport court for folks ready to watch the newest release and enjoying a Friday night together. Career Day is also on November 14, and we need lots of volunteers to make this an engaging event for our students. Last year was my first year to present at Career Day.  I was a little unsure how I would speak to the students about modeling, but they were engaged and loved hearing about my experience, so, of course, I signed up again this year! I still have students coming up to me and asking questions about my career. If you are on the fence about presenting, let this be your sign to sign up! It is important to have a variety of careers, so the students can see a different perspective and understand that the options for careers are endless.
Don't forget: Oct 24 FOL Mother/Son dance-a personal favorite of mine as a boy mom Oct 30 PTA General Meeting at 6:15pm Oct 31 Book Character Day- Can't wait to see books come alive that day! Nov 4 No school-Election Day
We have enjoyed a great first 9 weeks, and I am so appreciative of your endless support. All of your kind words, hellos, smiles, and willingness to lend a hand mean a lot to me, the volunteers, and the staff of Lakewood Elementary.
See you at Fall Fest! Shannon Stuart, PTA President |

 | THIS SUNDAY!! DON'T MISS IT!! |
 | | | | | | Fall Fest is almost here! Join us on Sunday, October 19, for a day of games, food, and fun for the whole family. Wristbands ($10) will be available to purchase that day and are required for children. Here's how you can get involved:
We still need donations for the Cake Walk! Our Fall Fest favorite is back! Please sign up to bring a store-bought dessert (cakes, cupcakes, cookies, brownies, or cookie cakes) to drop off on Friday, October 17. If you don't have time to shop, Venmo @Elizabeth-Hayes-45 by the 17th, and we'll handle it. We'll need 200+ treats to keep this game going all afternoon!
We still need Volunteers! We need helpers for setup, take-down, midway games, and the Cake Walk. Volunteer here to make the fun happen!
FOL Haunted House needs Volunteers or they risk having to cancel this SPOOK-tacular tradition! It is that time of year again. The haunted house is back at Fall Fest! Please consider signing up for a shift. FOL requires the collective efforts of all dads to ensure the children have a memorable experience!

 | | IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM DISD Let’s work together to keep all of our students safe.
Please be extra mindful of the school zones around our campus.

Follow the posted speed limit during arrival and dismissal times.

Always use the designated crosswalks when moving from one side of the street to the other.

Please remain vigilant and avoid the use of cell phones while in school zones.

Your cooperation helps ensure a safe start and end to each school day for every child. |
 |
 | LAKEWOOD CLUBS The chart shared last week has been updated and is below.  UIL and Debate applications will be coming soon.  Lonestar Challenge and Garden applications will open in the spring.   |
 | Reminder to please return the Clubs Consent Form Dear Lakewood Families, Along with this letter, you will find the District’s extracurricular consent form. I want to take a moment to clarify what each box on the form means: If you check “All student clubs/activities authorized or sponsored by the District” — your child may participate in any District-sponsored extracurricular activity.

If you check “All student clubs/activities authorized or sponsored by the campus” — your child may participate in any extracurricular activity offered at Lakewood.

If you check “My child may only participate in the following…” — your child may only join the activities you list by name. For example, if you want your child to participate in LOLA (Lakewood Outdoor Learning Area), you must write “LOLA” on the line. If it is not listed, your child will not be permitted to participate.

If you want your child to have access to all Lakewood clubs and activities without needing to list them individually, the easiest option is to check the “All student clubs/activities authorized or sponsored by the campus” box. Thank you for your attention to this form so we can make sure your child has the opportunities you want for them.
Warmly,  Emily Stelling Campus Activities Coordinator estelling@dallasisd.org

 | | IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM ADMINISTRATION RE: Electric Bikes + Scooters on Campus As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping all students and families safe during arrival and dismissal, I want to provide important clarification on the rules regarding electric bicycles (e-bikes) and electric scooters on or near our school campus. The City of Dallas has established clear ordinances about where motor-assisted scooters and electric bicycles may operate. These rules directly affect sidewalks and streets around our school. Key Points for Our School Community: Electric Scooters• May not be operated on sidewalks anywhere in Dallas, including those adjacent to schools.
 • They are also not permitted in school crosswalks, on school sidewalks, or within designated pedestrian areas.
Electric Bicycles• By state law, e-bikes are treated similarly to traditional bicycles. However, Dallas city ordinances restrict their use on sidewalks that are primarily pedestrian pathways.
 • For safety reasons, e-bikes should not be ridden on school sidewalks, in front of building entrances, or through crosswalks where children and families are walking.
 • Students or visitors arriving by e-bike must dismount at the edge of school property and walk the bicycle while on sidewalks and pathways within or directly adjacent to campus.
Streets and Roadways• Both e-bikes and scooters are allowed on streets with posted speed limits of 35 mph or lower.
 • Riders must obey all traffic signals, stop signs, and crosswalk rules just like other vehicles and bicycles.
On Campus Grounds• Dallas ISD policy and campus safety practices prohibit the operation of motorized vehicles (including scooters and e-bikes) on school sidewalks, play areas, or pedestrian paths.
 • Students should park bicycles and e-bikes only in the designated racks provided.
Why This Matters: Our sidewalks are used daily by young children, families, and staff. Even at low speeds, scooters and e-bikes can create safety hazards in crowded areas. These restrictions are in place to protect pedestrians and ensure a safe environment for everyone on campus. We also ask all students and community members to be courteous in high-traffic pedestrian areas by slowing down and walking any mechanical bikes or scooters when using school sidewalks or pathways. We ask for your full cooperation in following these rules and reinforcing them with your children. Working together, we can maintain safe arrival and dismissal procedures that reflect the high standards of our school and community. Thank you for your attention to this important safety matter and for your ongoing support of our students and community. |
 |
 | Reminder! No large groups, team practices, or cleats on the new field. Thank you for your cooperation! |
