Lakewood's volunteers help make so much of what happens at our school possible. No matter how much time you have to give, there's a place for you to get involved and make a meaningful impact.
REQUIREMENTS
DISD requires all campus volunteers complete a background check and training through VOLY. Every volunteer, every year. No exceptions.

All volunteer sign-ups are done through the DISD VOLY website.
- VOLY does not send a confirmation email.
- To view your sign-ups, click Login > My Opportunities > scroll past the calendar
- To delete a sign-ups, click Login > My Opportunities > scroll past the calendar > select the X next to the opportunity to cancel (on the app you will swipe left on the Opportunity and click select Remove)

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Campus Beautification
This is a fun way to get your child volunteering during their grade-level campus clean-ups throughout the school year, taking place one Sunday afternoon per month.
Chicken Coop
Volunteer to help at recess or to check on the chickens over the summer.
Counselor Advisory Committee
The Lakewood Counselors host various events throughout the year like Red Ribbon Week (Fall), Career Day, and Angel Tree (December), all of which are run with the help of parent volunteers.
Fall Fest
Lakewood’s Fall Fest needs volunteers, prizes, cake walk items and more!
Field Day
Lakewood’s spring field day takes place during school hours and needs volunteers to run each activity.
FOL - Crossing Guards, Math Maniacs & More
FOL is Lakewood's dad’s group that supports the school in many ways including Math Maniacs, providing extra Crossing Guards, creating and running the Fall Fest Haunted Hallway, and more.
Garden
Our Lakewood gardens need sprucing up throughout the year and need your help to keep them maintained during school holidays.
LECPTA Home Tour
The LECPTA Home Tour benefits our school and Woodrow feeder pattern schools. Docent and check-in volunteers are needed to make this event successful.
Library
Our school library needs help with re-shelving books throughout the year, as well as help running the Book Fair.
LOLA
The Lakewood Outdoor Learning Area needs parent volunteers to assist every class during their LOLA class time. Room reps will send out the volunteer sign-ups through class communications.
Lost & Found
Lost and Found frequently gathers and organizes lost items on campus in efforts to reunite students with their belongings.
Lunch Pals
Join your child for lunch! Lunch Pals (formerly Lunch Buddies) will occur on Tuesdays. Grade levels will be assigned to certain months.
Lunch Pals Rules:
- Lunch Pals is limited to one guest. No siblings.
- Must check in at front desk with acceptable ID (Drivers license, passport).
- Students will meet you in the cafeteria. Arrive 10 minutes early to get checked in and be escorted to the cafeteria.
- Follow Cafeteria Rules while participating:
- Sit at designated visitor tables (outside tables weather permitting)
- Visitors are not permitted in lunch line
- Quiet time first 10 minutes of lunch (Adults and students)
- Leave campus when the lunch period is over
- Outside food only for you and your child (no friends, please!).
- No 3rd party deliveries (UberEats/DoorDash) for students due to safety concerns.
Lunch Bunch
Help in the cafeteria! Work alongside teachers and admin during lunch and see your child in action. Lunch Bunch First Shift is 10:15AM-12PM for Kinder/1st Grade/2nd Grade lunch; Second Shift is 11:45AM-1:30PM for 3rd Grade/4th Grade/5th Grade lunch.

Monthly Lunch
This monthly lunch is a grade-level effort to supply lunch for the teachers and staff in the teacher workroom.
Peace Pantries
Many schools in our feeder pattern have Peace Pantries that support economically disadvantaged students with food, uniforms and other supplies. These items are needed throughout the year, especially around holidays.

Two Room Rep volunteers are needed per class to facilitate communication with classroom parents and to support your teacher throughout the year.
Secret Pals
Love gift-giving? We need volunteers to sign up for EVERY teacher and staff member to shower them monthly to show how much we appreciate them.
Stallion Store
Volunteers are needed to be “sales associates” at the Stallion (reward) Store for all students that happens at the end of each 9 week grading period.
Teacher Workroom
Each month a different grade level supplies the teachers and staff with snacks, treats and drinks in their workroom space.
Thanksgiving Pies
A beloved Lakewood tradition...teachers and staff take a pie home for the holidays!
...and so many MORE! Look out for your communications from your child's classroom for other volunteer opportunities such as Mystery Reader, class party volunteers, etc.
