Why join the PTA / What does the PTA do?

Lakewood Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a non-profit, volunteer organization made up of parents, teachers, and community members committed to enhancing the educational experience for all children at Lakewood Elementary School. Joining the PTA is a great way to connect with and support the Lakewood school community. Funds raised by the Lakewood PTA provide much needed supplies, equipment, and school programs not covered by DISD funding. PTA volunteers and fundraising help support school programs such as:

  • Field trips
  • Stallion Store
  • Fall Fest and Spring Party events
  • Spirit wear
  • Book Fair
  • Staff appreciation lunches and programs
  • Yearbook
  • Expressions Magazine and Reflections Arts Program
  • LOLA programs
  • Classroom equipment
  • eNews

PTA members may receive discounts from several of Texas PTA’s preferred partners. Find out more at the Texas PTA website https://www.txpta.org/member-perks.

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ME WHEN I JOIN?

Becoming a member of the PTA shows that you want to help support the programs and events that help enhance students' experiences at school. It does NOT obligate you to attend PTA meetings or volunteer at school. However, attending meetings and volunteering with the PTA provide opportunities to meet other parents, connect with teachers and administrators, and support Lakewood Elementary.
