Dear Lakewood Families,

I am excited to share and warmly welcome Assistant Principal Zulema Martinez to the Lakewood Elementary community beginning February 17th.

Ms. Martinez joins us with a strong background in teaching and instructional leadership. She has served as a middle school science teacher and most recently as a district instructional coach, supporting instruction across multiple campuses at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Her experience includes partnering with educators and campus leaders to strengthen instruction through data analysis, thoughtful planning systems, progress monitoring, and professional learning focused on student growth and teacher capacity.

At Lakewood, Assistant Principal Martinez will work closely with our first and fourth grade teachers, students, and families. She will also support our Specials team and partner with staff connected to our Dual Language program. Her passion for student centered practices, collaboration, and inclusive learning experiences will be a great asset to our campus community.

Please join me in welcoming Assistant Principal Martinez to the Lakewood family. As a community, I know we will extend a warm Lakewood welcome and offer her the time and grace to learn our systems, our students, and our unique community as she settles into this new role. We are grateful to have her with us!

I would also like to take this opportunity to request that you complete the intent-to-return form.  This helps us minimize disruptions caused by fall leveling and maintain balanced class sizes.  We understand that family plans can shift due to private or choice school decisions, and your responses will help us plan proactively. Please submit the form by Friday, February 27, 2026.

Thank you for partnering with us in preparing for a successful school year ahead!

Important Reminder about SB9 Parent Opt In Forms

Earlier this year, Dallas ISD emailed families an SB9 Opt in Parent Consent Form. If you have not already done so, please take a moment to check your email and complete the form.

The district provides age-appropriate health and safety lessons aligned to Senate Bill 9 standards, including topics such as personal safety, prevention of child abuse, family and dating violence, and other safety related instruction. Lessons are carefully reviewed by the Dallas ISD School Health Advisory Council and are tailored to each grade level.

Students will only participate in this instruction if a parent or guardian opts them in. Students who are not opted in will receive an alternative lesson during that time.

You can review the curriculum by grade level here. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Coach Coleman at lycoleman@dallasisd.org.

Thank you for taking a few minutes to review and submit your preference.

***CRITICAL FEEDBACK NEEDED BY FEBRUARY 27***

To effectively plan for next year's class placements/sizes, please complete this form by February 27.  This information is critical for DISD to determine our teacher/staff needs.

If your plan may be changing based on choice or private school acceptance deadlines, you can indicate that on the form, as well.  Thank you.
