Dear Lakewood Families,

The safety of our students and staff remains a top priority on our campus, and we appreciate your partnership in helping us maintain a secure school environment.

As a reminder, all visitors must enter the building through the front office during the school day. For security reasons, we ask that parents and guests do not request that students or staff open side doors or other entrances. These procedures help us ensure that everyone in the building has properly checked in.

When visiting campus, please bring a valid ID so that our office staff can print a visitor badge for you. All visitors are required to wear their badge while on campus and return it to the front office when leaving the building. Returning badges helps us ensure that they are not accidentally taken or reused by someone else.

For those who plan to volunteer or spend time supporting activities on campus, please remember that the district requires completion of the VOLY registration each school year. This process ensures that all volunteers working with or around students have been properly cleared. We also ask that volunteers coordinate their time on campus with their child’s teacher in advance so staff can plan appropriately and ensure supervision and schedules are in place.

As a Lakewood family, we want to assure you that we consistently practice our building security protocols and student safety drills and regularly review procedures to ensure they remain strong. Our campus implements multiple layers of safety measures each day, including:

- Controlled and monitored entrances to the building with all guests and volunteers checking in through the front office
- Video surveillance monitoring our campus grounds
- Volunteer background checks through the VOLY system prior to volunteering
- Front office check in through the Raptor system using a valid ID to verify identification and screen for registered offenders
- PikMyKid dismissal system to ensure students are released safely to authorized adults
- A controlled front entrance with locked secondary security doors from the foyer
- Visible staff and district employee badges at all times
- Staff monitoring hallways and common areas throughout the day
- Lockblocks installed on every classroom door to quickly secure rooms from the inside if needed
- Daily perimeter and exterior door checks
- Locked exterior doors that are only accessible by electronic keycard or the front door buzzer
- Perimeter fencing along Wendover to secure campus grounds
- Regularly scheduled safety drills to prepare students and staff for emergencies
- District and state conducted campus safety reviews

Please know our Lakewood team is deeply committed to protecting all of our children. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and secure environment for our school community. If you ever have questions, concerns, or suggestions, please feel free to reach out.

Stallion Strong,
Principal Thompson

🎨 Registration Opens March 16🎨

Imaginarium is excited to offer after-school art classes at Lakewood Elementary for the 2026–2027 school year. Registration opens March 16, and we can’t wait to welcome a new group of young artists.

Art I (K–2) will be offered on Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 3:30–4:30 PM. In these weekly one-hour classes, young artists follow Imaginarium’s 36-week curriculum (August–May) exploring the elements of art through engaging projects designed for early elementary students. Throughout the year, students build a portfolio of their work, allowing them to see their creativity and skills grow.

For older students, we are offering Fiber Art & Sewing (Grades 3–5) on Thursdays from 3:30–4:30 PM, where students learn the fundamentals of fiber arts and sewing while creating beautiful handmade projects.

All classes are limited to 16 students to ensure plenty of individual attention.

Tuition is prorated at $200 per month.

Scholarships are available.

Email ms.cox@imaginariumschool.com for scholarship information.

Visit www.imaginariumschool.com to learn more about Imaginarium’s program and to register.

White Rock Spring Games are coming up on May 3!

Save the Date!  Registration opens on Monday, March 30 at 8:00 am!

What can the Bond money be used for?

By law, bond funds can only be used for "capital" projects (construction and equipment). They cannot be used for the District’s daily operating budget, which includes salaries, utilities, and fuel. Bonds are the only means in Texas to access funding for construction needs.

Technology Expectations for the School Day

We have attached a short overview of our campus expectations for technology and personal devices. Our goal is to ensure that technology supports learning while also helping students stay focused and engaged throughout the school day.

Students may not have personal smart devices on their person during the school day. This includes smart watches, Gabb watches, cell phones, AirPods, or any device capable of messaging, calling, or internet access. If a student brings a device to school, it will be collected by the homeroom teacher at the start of the day and securely stored until dismissal.

These expectations help create a focused learning environment, reduce distractions, and support positive peer interactions. The attached document includes additional details about procedures and expectations for both school issued and personal devices.

DISD Summer Cool 2026 Registration

DISD has officially released registration for Summer Cool. Summer Cool is a district program that combines academic acceleration with creativity, exploration, and enrichment while also supporting students’ social and emotional well being.

Summer Cool will run Monday, June 1 through Thursday, June 25. There will be no programming on Fridays. Program hours are 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM.
Families may register for any DISD campus that is hosting Summer Cool. Our feeder pattern host campus is Geneva Heights. Please note that students are not guaranteed placement at Geneva Heights, as DISD does not provide feeder pattern priority during registration. Students must have a valid DISD Student ID to enroll.

Important Reminder about SB9 Parent Opt In Forms

Earlier this year, Dallas ISD emailed families an SB9 Opt in Parent Consent Form. If you have not already done so, please take a moment to check your email and complete the form.

The district provides age-appropriate health and safety lessons aligned to Senate Bill 9 standards, including topics such as personal safety, prevention of child abuse, family and dating violence, and other safety related instruction. Lessons are carefully reviewed by the Dallas ISD School Health Advisory Council and are tailored to each grade level.

Students will only participate in this instruction if a parent or guardian opts them in. Students who are not opted in will receive an alternative lesson during that time.

You can review the curriculum by grade level here. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Coach Coleman at lycoleman@dallasisd.org.

Thank you for taking a few minutes to review and submit your preference.
