Dear Lakewood families,

Welcome back! We hope you had a restful and enjoyable Spring Break. We are so excited to have our students back this week and are looking forward to a strong finish to the semester together.

This week, our students jumped right back into learning with some wonderful field trip experiences. Our second graders enjoyed a trip to the Dallas Children’s Theater, our fourth graders visited the Dallas Arboretum through a district supported experience, and our fifth graders explored the Environmental Education Center. These opportunities help bring learning to life, and we are grateful to our staff and parent volunteers who made them possible.

We are also looking forward to our upcoming LOLA Night tonight. This is always a fun and engaging event for our students and families, and we are so appreciative of the time and effort that goes into planning it. A special thank you to our LOLA chairs, Molly Schnettler and Elaine Bell, for their leadership and dedication in organizing such a meaningful experience for our community.

As we move into the final stretch of the school year, we will also begin our spring testing season. Our first round of STAAR state assessments will take place on April 8. Our students have been working hard all year, and we are confident in their preparation. More information will be shared soon to help families feel informed and ready as we approach testing.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We are grateful to have our students back and are excited for all that lies ahead in the weeks to come.

Stallion Strong,

Principal Thompson

The White Rock Spring Games, presented by Comerica Bank, are back!

On Sunday, May 3rd, the White Rock Spring Games return to Bishop Lynch High School for another year of fun and fundraising! The Games bring together K thru 5th graders from dozens of East Dallas schools to compete in five fun-filled events while enjoying plenty of great food and other activities. And beginning on March 30th, your kids can officially register here.  The fee for each 4-member team is $160.

Since the first White Rock Spring Games in 2012, over $300,000 has been raised for more than fifty different schools across our neighborhood, and we’re excited to help parents and students add to that total in 2026!

A FEW THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND…

  • 32-TEAM LIMIT PER GENDER PER GRADE.  Please note that participation in the 2026 Games will be limited to 32 teams per gender per grade. (For example, only 32 girls teams from the 3rd Grade will be accepted.)

  • REGISTRATION IS FIRST COME FIRST SERVE.  Absolutely no exceptions to this 32-team limit can be made, so we recommend you register as early as possible to reserve your team’s spot.

  • EVENT TIMES:  Grades K thru 2 will compete from 12:30pm to 3:00pm; Grades 3 thru 5 will compete from 4:00pm to 6:30pm

Please be sure that ALL of your team members are available during the designated time windows before signing up.

The White Rock Spring Games would not happen without the support of our generous sponsors. We are currently seeking sponsor partners for the 2026 games.  If interested, please reach out to tatum@whiterockgames.com.

A heartfelt thank you to our Lakewood Elementary families for your involvement in any way you were able. Because of you, our community has achieved something incredible:

  • Together, 396 families joined in and raised $67,380.32 in lifesaving donations for the American Heart Association to help people everywhere live longer, healthier lives.
  • More than 76 families in our school have learned lifesaving skills like Hands-Only CPR and how to recognize the warning signs of a stroke.

We are proud to bring these healthy habits and lifesaving skills into our community and we couldn’t have done it without you! Thank you for being part of our mission to build healthier hearts, big and small.

Friendly Reminder:

What can the Bond money be used for?

By law, bond funds can only be used for "capital" projects (construction and equipment). They cannot be used for the District’s daily operating budget, which includes salaries, utilities, and fuel. Bonds are the only means in Texas to access funding for construction needs.
