Dear Lakewood Families,

It has been a joyful and eventful week at Lakewood, and I am so proud of the way our students continue to show up as leaders, teammates, and problem solvers in all that they do.

We are especially excited for our 5th grade students as they head off to their overnight Science Camp at Camp Carter. This is such a meaningful experience and a special milestone in their elementary journey. We are wishing them a trip filled with curiosity, connection, and unforgettable memories. A big thank you to our 5th grade teachers and chaperones who are making this experience possible.

We also had an incredible Field Day this week. A huge thank you to Coach Coleman, Coach Diederich, and our PTA Committee Chair Christy McGilton for organizing such a fun and engaging experience for our students. And, a big thank you to FOL for paying for our fun field day t-shirts.  The day was filled with energy, teamwork, and joy. We are so grateful to our volunteers who jumped in to support and help everything run smoothly. One of my favorite parts of the day was watching our 4th and 5th grade student leaders step into their roles with confidence and care. They did an amazing job mentoring and supporting our Kinder through 2nd grade students, modeling what it means to lead with empathy and responsibility.

We also had the opportunity to celebrate our Dual Language students through a beautiful Hispanic Heritage performance. Our students truly shined on stage with vibrant dancing, confident performances, and so much pride in sharing this with our community. It was a special moment that reflected the joy, preparation, and dedication of our students and our parent volunteers! A sincere thank you to Clara Cullen and our Dual Language parent volunteers for bringing this experience to life. Your support helped create a meaningful celebration for our entire school community.

It was a powerful reflection of the leadership culture we are building together at Lakewood. Moments like these remind us what makes our school community so special. Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

Stallion Strong,

Principal Thompson

The Lakewood PTA has voted to endorse the 2026 Bond election, and we encourage you to vote in favor of all four propositions. As you may be aware, Dallas ISD is having a Bond Election this spring.  Early voting has begun and runs through April 28, 2026.  Election Day is Saturday, May 2.If approved, the proposed bond would benefit Lakewood students directly, through renovations and site upgrades to support Lakewood's growing student population.  The one-page summary of Lakewood-related proposals is available here.

More broadly, if approved by voters, the proposed bond would support all Dallas ISD students by:

  • Building 26 new replacement schools
  • Providing renovations and upgrades at all campuses
  • Removing all remaining portable classrooms
  • Implementing safety and security upgrades districtwide
  • Upgrading student technology
  • Redirecting resources back to classrooms by refinancing loans
  • Repairing the district’s swimming pools

More information is available from DISD here.

We are celebrating Earth Week with a Shoe Drive and will continue to collect until May 8!

WHY SHOES?  At Funds2Orgs, impact starts with the simple act of collecting shoes to help local organizations raise funds. What happens next becomes a cycle of social good—rooted in sustainability and the reuse economy. Our fundraising model raises funds locally while supporting the environment by keeping millions of pairs of shoes out of landfills and redirecting them to global communities, where they fuel small businesses in developing countries. This isn’t just a fundraiser. It’s a movement.

We will take care of packaging up the shoes.  You just need to clean out those closets and drop off!

3rd & 4th Grade GT ECO FAIR

Join us for our GT 3rd and 4th Grade Eco Fair, where students showcase their passion for sustainability through interactive stations. Enjoy student-led “TED-style” talks, view learning artifacts, and explore hands-on demonstrations like composting and recycling games. Experience creativity through recycled art and live eco-art, and visit the garden for tours, planting projects, and lessons on sustainability. Come see our students in action as they care for our planet!
