Dear Lakewood Families,

As we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible educators who make Lakewood such a special place for children each and every day.

Our teachers wear more hats than most people will ever fully realize. They are educators, mentors, encouragers, problem solvers, counselors, cheerleaders, planners, listeners, protectors, and trusted adults for so many children. They celebrate victories big and small, help students navigate challenges, wipe tears, build confidence, create belonging, and pour endless time, energy, and heart into helping every child grow.

For many of our teachers, this work is far more than a job. It is truly a calling. The love, care, patience, and commitment they show daily cannot be measured by a lesson plan or a schedule. Long after the school day ends, they continue thinking about students, preparing engaging learning experiences, communicating with families, collaborating with teammates, and finding ways to help every child feel seen, supported, and successful.

At Lakewood, we are incredibly fortunate to have educators who lead with both excellence and heart. The work they do matters deeply, and the impact they have on children lasts far beyond elementary school.

Thank you for the trust you place in our staff each day. We know how precious your children are, and we never take lightly the opportunity to partner with you in their growth, learning, and development. Your support, encouragement, and kindness toward our teachers mean more than you know.

If you have a chance this week, I encourage you to send a note, share a kind word, or simply remind a teacher how much they are appreciated. Small gestures go a long way in a profession that gives so much.

Thank you for continuing to make Lakewood such a strong and supportive community for both our students and staff.

Stallion Strong,

Principal Thompson

All are invited to enjoy the show, no tickets are required. Support our Music and Theater programs and come applaud the hard work of our cast and crew!

Summary: On just one special night of the year, all Jellicle cats meet at the Jellicle Ball where Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, makes the Jellicle choice and announces which of them will go up to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.

Shows are approximately an hour long.

We'd love for you to join us for our final Garden Club meeting of the year! Parents and their students will walk through the gardens to show the amazing work the students have accomplished this year. Ms. Jones, Master Gardeners, and your students have planted, weeded, watered, and tended to the garden diligently, so let's celebrate their hard work!

Please RSVP here if you are a LWE alumni and plan to attend.

Save time and money this summer with Lakewood Elementary’s EduKit program! Order your teacher-approved supply kits now to have them waiting in your child’s classroom on the first day of school.

We are celebrating Earth Week with a Shoe Drive and will continue to collect until May 8!

WHY SHOES?  At Funds2Orgs, impact starts with the simple act of collecting shoes to help local organizations raise funds. What happens next becomes a cycle of social good—rooted in sustainability and the reuse economy. Our fundraising model raises funds locally while supporting the environment by keeping millions of pairs of shoes out of landfills and redirecting them to global communities, where they fuel small businesses in developing countries. This isn’t just a fundraiser. It’s a movement.

We will take care of packaging up the shoes.  You just need to clean out those closets and drop off!

3rd & 4th Grade GT ECO FAIR

Join us for our GT 3rd and 4th Grade Eco Fair, where students showcase their passion for sustainability through interactive stations. Enjoy student-led “TED-style” talks, view learning artifacts, and explore hands-on demonstrations like composting and recycling games. Experience creativity through recycled art and live eco-art, and visit the garden for tours, planting projects, and lessons on sustainability. Come see our students in action as they care for our planet!
