Dear Lakewood Families, As we continue another wonderful year at Lakewood, I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to our incredible parent volunteers. Whether you have joined us on a field trip, supported a classroom activity, helped with a campus event, or contributed behind the scenes, your time and involvement truly make a difference. These special experiences would not be possible without your partnership, and we are grateful for the many ways you support our students and staff. Tomorrow, our Lakewood community will come together for our Best Buddies Friendship Walk. This special event is a meaningful reflection of our mission and vision to advocate for all and create a campus where every student feels included, valued, and celebrated. Best Buddies helps our students build genuine friendships, develop empathy, and recognize the unique strengths each person brings to our community. We are incredibly grateful to the many volunteers who have given their time and energy to help make tomorrow’s walk possible. Your support helps bring our commitment to inclusion to life for our students. A special shout-out goes to our PTA Chairs, Ms. Powell and Ms. Gole, as well as our PTA president, Ms. McKie, for their leadership in bringing these opportunities to our community. We are also grateful to our teacher leaders, Ms. Hughes and Ms. Johnson, for their dedication and support! I would also like to recognize the incredible team supporting our musical theater program and this year’s production of The Wizard of Oz. We are especially grateful to our PTA Theater Chairs, Ms. Moseley and Ms. Morse, for their leadership and partnership. A special thank-you also goes to Mr. Reich and Mr. Stark, along with our teacher support team, Ms. Adams, Ms. Hatcher, Ms. Gibbs, Ms. Jones, Mr. Holmes, and Ms. Nguyen, for giving their time to support our student auditions. This year, we received the highest number of student applicants in the history of the program! This incredible response reflects our students’ enthusiasm and the strong foundation this team has built for them to grow in confidence, creativity, and collaboration. We are so fortunate to have a community that shows up for our children. Thank you for sharing your time, talents, and encouragement with Lakewood. You Did It, Lakewood! Thanks to your incredible support, our Stallion Strong Family Giving Campaign broke records again this year! Together, we raised more than $124,500 for the LWE PTA Operating Budget with 71% student participation! |

Let your Spectacular Stallion shine! Sign-ups are now open for the 2nd Annual Fall Fest Talent Show on Sunday, October 18. Individual and group acts are welcome — singing, dancing, magic, music, cheer, Rubik’s Cube solving, martial arts and more. Whatever their talent, we want to see it! A Note for K-2 Parents As we settle into the school year, we know that school drop-off can sometimes be difficult for young children—and their parents! Some separation anxiety is completely normal, especially at the beginning of the school year or when returning after a weekend, holiday, illness, or other time away from school. The good news is that there are often simple things families can do to help children feel more confident at drop-off and make the transition into the school day easier. Please see the resource below with helpful tips for supporting your child through separation anxiety. Consistent routines, brief and positive goodbyes, and regular on-time attendance can all help children learn that school is a safe place and that their grown-up will return at the end of the day. If separation anxiety is becoming more frequent or intense, or is beginning to affect your child's attendance, tardies, or ability to transition into the school day, please reach out to our school counselor, Ms. Booth, for additional support. 972-749-7319

A Note From Nurse Bagby Immunizations: If your child’s immunization records need updating or are not currently compliant, you have received or will receive a letter home. Please respond promptly so we can get our records up to date! Clinic Visits: Lakewood has a very busy clinic, and we do our best to provide excellent care to every student who comes through our door. For minor bumps and bruises, Band-Aids, headaches or stomachaches relieved by routine measures, and other minor concerns, we may not notify parents. We will contact you for illness requiring dismissal, head injuries, more significant injuries that may need follow-up, or anything we feel you should know about or monitor at home. It is a joy to care for your children, and we look forward to working together for a happy, healthy school year! |
| LOLA is Coming to Recess! LOLA will be at recess next Monday, September 28! Students can explore LOLA, get creative with arts and crafts, and, of course, enjoy the always-popular insect tattoos. Sign up for a 30-minute volunteerslot and join your child and their classmates for the fun! Must be VOLY-approved. |

It's Not Too Late! Volunteer with Tomorrow's Best Buddies Friendship Walk |
It’s time for the 2nd Lakewood Elementary Friendship Walk! The Friendship Walk is the signature event of Best Buddies International, and Lakewood Elementary has their very own walk to promote friendship and inclusivity. We will need 50 volunteers to man stations and lead groups on the walk for our large student body- every student and staff participates! The event is 9-12PM. Please plan to arrive at 8:30AM and stay for the entire event. |

Take the Stage in The Nutcracker! |
Math Maniacs is back every Wednesday morning before school, with FOL dads leading quick, fun math challenges that get LWE kids fired up before the first bell. Grades 1-5, just show up and jump in. We could use more volunteer dads to help lead sessions, no big math required required, just an hour before drop-off looking like a hero to your kid and others! |
FOL's Sporting Clays & Skeet Shoot is Friday, October 2 at 9AM at the Dallas Gun Club, and it's a good excuse to get out with the guys. $195 gets you a round of clays and skeet, a burger bar lunch, and beer and wine on the course for three hours after. No team needed, just bring your own gun and ammo (3 boxes of shells recommended) and we'll get you grouped up. It's also a fundraiser, so every ticket helps fund what FOL does for LWE all year. |
Lakewood Leaps Farmer's Market For kids, by kids! The Lakewood LEAPS Farmer’s Market gives neighborhood children the chance to make and sell, or shop and support, all while raising funds and awareness for the Lakewood LEAPS Playground Project. |
