Message from Principal Thompson

Dear Families,

It’s been a great week of learning for our Stallions as they are diving deeper into content. Thank you for coming to visit with our staff for information night this week, and for all of the support and teacher appreciation from our amazing PTA and community. Next week will be a four day week after Labor Day, and Tuesday morning we will be engaging in a safety lockdown drill with our students. We will also start beginning of year diagnostic MAP testing, and we will end the week with student individual pictures on Friday.

Let’s make this a great week of learning.

NEXT WEEK IS MAP TESTING!

Next week we will begin our Beginning of the Year assessments.

NWEA MAP Growth is an adaptive assessment used for measuring achievement and growth in K-12 math, reading, language usage, and science. This assessment provides teachers with accurate and actionable evidence to help target instruction for each student or groups of students, regardless of how far above or below they are from their grade level. It also connects to the largest set of instructional content providers, giving educators flexibility in curriculum choices.

Questions? Reach out to your teachers regarding questions on dates/times for your students, or read more about it HERE!

All 4th and 5th graders received a flyer home last week about Robotics Tryouts today; here is your quick reminder and hope to see everyone interested at 3:30-5!

Lakewood Music Theater

What:

Music theater is an after-school performance opportunity in which students will participate in singing, dancing, and acting on stage. The purpose of this group is to provide additional performing arts opportunities to students in 5th grade. This year’s musical will be Seussical Jr., a Broadway Junior musical based on characters from Dr. Seuss stories.

Who:

Students in 5th grade are invited to audition. The maximum number of students allowed in the performing group is 40. Students will audition for a panel of judges including Lakewood staff. Students interested in stage crew can sign up with Ms. Maston and Mrs. Ward at a later date.

When:

Auditions will be held on Tuesday, September 6th and Thursday, September 8th from 3:30 to 4:30pm in the Auditorium. A sign up sheet will be provided in the music room. Interested students should sign up for one of the audition dates days prior to auditions. If you have any questions, please feel free to email Mrs. Benton at mfinlyebenton@dallasisd.org.

Join us for LOLA After School on the second Wednesday of every month! This month we will celebrate the MONARCH BUTTERFLY MIGRATION. Explore our outdoor learning area with your student(s) and participate in nature-themed activities. Drop in when you can and stay for as long as you’d like!

Welcome back to LOLA! Our nature-themed LOLA education classes will begin in September for our 5th, 4th, and 3rd grade classes. We’d love for parent volunteers to help assist! All volunteers MUST have an updated VOLY registration. Volunteers may help with set up/clean up, take action photos, assist students with hands-on activities, etc. The front office would like volunteer names a week early if possible, so don't wait to claim your spot through the sign-ups below.

Introducing... LUNCH BUNCH!

We are so excited about an incredible new parent volunteer opportunity this year. To give back time to our amazing teachers, we will be staffing lunch with parent volunteers - the LW LUNCH BUNCH!

Beginning Tuesday 9/6, we will have at least three parents on duty each day for the full lunch period - K-5, 10:30a - 1:30p. Volunteers, working alongside one administrator, will be responsible for things like monitoring the line, supervising cleaning & dismissing children by class for recess. This will be a really fun volunteer opportunity for parents, especially those who haven’t gotten to spend time in school these past two years!  Note: we are waiting until after Christmas Break to have new Kinder parents volunteer. Hard to see your parents at lunch and not want to go home with them!

Fill out this info form and we will send the Sign Up Genius this week to all interested! There will be a training the week of 9/6 for all volunteers.  If you are interested in being a grade level lead and shadowing lunch supervision over the next two weeks, please email lunchbunch@lakewoodelementary.net
