Message from Principal Thompson

Dear Families,

With MAP testing in full swing this week, it has been wonderful to see our smart Stallions and their dedication to excellence and trying their best. Don't forget that tomorrow is Picture Day (free dress), and every Wednesday in September we have a different way to raise awareness of the importance of school attendance. Our Stallions certainly shined bright in their neon attire yesterday!

Looking ahead, we can't wait to see everyone at all the upcoming events such as LOLA and Fall Fest; be sure to mark those calendars with the important dates at the top of eNews each week.

Stallion Strong,

Principal Thompson

Lakewood Garden Work Day

Please join us as we help spruce up the Lakewood school gardens for the fall on Saturday, September 24th from 8am-12pm. We will be weeding, pruning, and mulching. There will be donuts, and student volunteers receive a free dress pass! Please sign up here!

Please complete this application form by September 19 if you are interested in joining Chess Club.

Lunch Bunch is up and running this week with parent volunteers staffing the full 10:30-1:30 lunch hour! We are thrilled so many parents wanted to participate. As we get the program up and running, building a critical mass of volunteers who understand the process, we have closed the sign up until after the Thanksgiving holiday. We will prioritize new volunteers who haven't had the chance yet at that point. If you would like to be a sub, please reach out to lunchbunch@lakewoodelementary.net

It's your last chance to get lucky with Viva Las Lakewood merchandise! Place your order by 10PM TODAY! Your child will want to be lookin' Lucky in Lakewood on September 30 — the official date for Viva Las Lakewood Spirit Day!

Youth sized shirts must be pre-ordered by 10PM today. They will be distributed on the Sports Court on Wednesday, September 28. All remaining adult sizes are in-stock and will be delivered to your door this week.

The Viva Las Lakewood Auction Party is hosted by the Lakewood Early Childhood PTA. This event (on November 11 at The Thompson Hotel) raises significant funds each year for Lakewood Elementary and its entire feeder pattern. Opportunities to have your business or family name as sponsors of the casino game tables, bars, food stations, AV or decor- among others- range from $500-$3,000. It is great marketing exposure to 600+ attendees, plus lots of social media love and a banner around the Lakewood Elementary campus. Email Underwriting@lecpta.org for more details.

Calling all 5th graders! The deadline to submit the intent to go form is TOMORROW. Included in the cost is guided city tours, round trip transportation, hotel rooms, daily meals, and personal learning guides. Sign up here and contact BRMCKINNEY@dallasisd.org if you have any questions.

Lakewood Music Theater

What:

Music theater is an after-school performance opportunity in which students will participate in singing, dancing, and acting on stage. The purpose of this group is to provide additional performing arts opportunities to students in 5th grade. This year’s musical will be Seussical Jr., a Broadway Junior musical based on characters from Dr. Seuss stories.

Who:

Students in 5th grade are invited to audition. The maximum number of students allowed in the performing group is 40. Students will audition for a panel of judges including Lakewood staff. Students interested in stage crew can sign up with Ms. Maston and Mrs. Ward at a later date.

When:

Auditions will be held on Tuesday, September 6th and Thursday, September 8th from 3:30 to 4:30pm in the Auditorium. A sign up sheet will be provided in the music room. Interested students should sign up for one of the audition dates days prior to auditions. If you have any questions, please feel free to email Mrs. Benton at mfinleybenton@dallasisd.org.

Join us for LOLA After School on the second Wednesday of every month! This month we will celebrate the MONARCH BUTTERFLY MIGRATION. Explore our outdoor learning area with your student(s) and participate in nature-themed activities. Drop in when you can and stay for as long as you’d like!

Welcome back to LOLA! Our nature-themed LOLA education classes will begin in September for our 5th, 4th, and 3rd grade classes. We’d love for parent volunteers to help assist! All volunteers MUST have an updated VOLY registration. Volunteers may help with set up/clean up, take action photos, assist students with hands-on activities, etc. The front office would like volunteer names a week early if possible, so don't wait to claim your spot through the sign-ups below.
