Dear Stallion Families,

A community is more than just the people who live around you, who go to the same grocery store as you, who walk to the same park as you, and who attend the same youth sports as you. The Lakewood Community shows up when needed, offers help, supports one another, wants to do good for the benefit of others, and makes everyone feel welcome.  The past few weeks our Lakewood Community has gone above and beyond. You have volunteered at the school, donated to our Stallion Strong Campaign, helped others in need in our community, and just this week, pulled off a huge surprise for our beloved Ms. Marian.  FOL, led by Eugene Berman with the help of Davey Farris and Brady Bishop, had an idea and a goal to help Ms. Marian after a recent car accident. They put the call out to our community for donations and with the help of Vanguard GMC, the Lakewood Community was able to surprise Ms. Marian with a brand new car. This is what matters. We can show our children what it is like to give to others and how a small amount can make a huge difference when we all work together.

Our community also showed up and made our first annual Best Buddies walk a huge success.  To see all of our students walking together and having fun on the new walking path, celebrating friendship and inclusion was an amazing sight to see. Thank you to Courtney Andring, Dorothy Powell, Nicole Kessler, the Best Buddies committee and volunteers, and the LWE staff and administration for this fun event that celebrates inclusion for all.

We are entering our last week of Stallion Strong. Thank you to all who have donated to the campaign. If you have not yet given, please know that a $5 donation can go a long way and counts for participation. Remember a small amount can make a huge difference. Email stallionstrong@lakewoodelementary.net if you have any questions.

Thank you Lakewood for being the best community. I am proud to be a part of this community and to be a representative of Lakewood Elementary.

A Proud Lakewood Stallion,

Shannan Stuart

2027-2028 DISD Calendar Survey

Dallas ISD is already working on the proposed calendar for the 2027-2028 school year and has developed a draft that will be presented to the Board of Trustees for review in October. As part of the calendar review and approval process, the district would like to gather comments from team members at the campuses and central, parents, and the community. You can share your opinion about the proposed calendar through Sept. 22 by filling out this survey.

You may have noticed that we recently began using VOLY for all of our school volunteer opportunities.  This will allow us to keep better track of who is in the school and when and we'll even be able to calculate just how many hours our volunteers clock in each month!

We hope the above FAQs can help answer some of your questions.  Thank you for your patience as we navigate this new process.

Have you enjoyed seeing field improvements and new walking paths at Lakewood Elementary this year? Our improved field area is the result of a collaborative group of volunteers called Lakewood LEAPS. Learn all about it at www.LakewoodLEAPS.org

We have big visions and more work ahead!  If you have a background in grant writing, squarespace, visual communications, and event planning and you would be interested in supporting this project, please reach out to Elizabeth Cheek and Shannon McKie at playground@lakewoodleaps.org.

September Attendance Awareness Month

September is Attendance Awareness Month, a time for individuals and organizations to learn about attendance issues, absenteeism, and the effects attendance can have on academic performance and success.

School attendance is essential to academic success, but too often, students, parents, and schools don’t realize how quickly absences, excused or unexcused, can add up to academic trouble. Chronic absence—missing just 18 days per school year—can lead to third-graders being unable to master reading, sixth-graders failing courses, and ninth-graders dropping out of high school.

Lunch Buddies is a chance for a parent to join their child for lunch once a year!

NEW For Fall of 2025:

  • Lunch Buddies will occur on Tuesdays and broken down by grade level.
  • There will be open spots for your class each Tuesday, depending on holidays and test dates.

Lunch Buddies Rules:

  • Limit lunch visit to one guest to allow time for all to participate.  No siblings.
  • Must check in at front desk with acceptable ID (Drivers license, passport).

  • Students will meet you in the cafeteria. Arrive 10 minutes early to get checked in and be escorted to the cafeteria.

  • Outside food only for you and your child (No friends, please!).

  • No 3rd party deliveries (Ubereats/DoorDash) for students due to safety concerns.

  • Follow Cafeteria Rules while participating:

    • Sit at designated visitor tables (outside tables weather permitting)

    • Visitors are not permitted in lunch line

    • Quiet time first 10 minutes of lunch (Adults and students)

    • Leave campus when the lunch period is over

Lunch times by grade:

  • 4th - 12:30PM -1:00 PM
  • 5th - 1:00PM - 1:30 PM

PLEASE NOTE:Lunch Buddies is not the same as Lunch Bunch. Lunch Bunch parents volunteer to help teachers oversee and clean the cafeteria. Two Lunch Bunch volunteers for each section (K-2 and 3-5) are needed EVERY DAY to help lunch run smoothly and allows teachers and staff a much-deserved break.

Message from Nurse Kyker:

Important – Consent Needed for School Health Services
Under Texas Senate Bill 12, the school nurse and staff must have written permission from a parent or guardian before providing a student with any health-related services—this includes things as simple as checking their temperature or giving first aid. The only time care can be given without written consent is in a life-threatening emergency. Parents are asked to complete the annual Health-Related Services consent form to ensure their child can receive care when needed.

Order before 10/31 and receive a 10% discount!
