Dear Lakewood families,

Tonight we look forward to welcoming many of our newest Stallions during Kinder Round Up. This event is always one of the most joyful moments of the year as we meet our incoming kindergarten students and their families. Seeing the excitement, curiosity, and wonder on the faces of our future learners is a wonderful reminder of the special role our school plays in the lives of children and families in this community. It is always such a meaningful moment to welcome a new group of students into the Lakewood family.

Events like this also remind me how grateful I am for the trust our families place in us each year. Thank you for allowing us the privilege of partnering with you in your child’s learning and growth. It is a responsibility our staff takes very seriously and one that we are honored to carry.

A very special thank you to our incredible parent volunteers who help bring events like this to life. We are especially grateful to Emily Hildebrand and Lane Pender for their leadership in organizing this year’s Kinder Round Up. Their time, energy, and dedication, along with the support of the parent volunteer team, help ensure that our newest families feel welcomed and excited as they begin their Lakewood journey.

We look forward to meeting our future kindergarteners tonight and continuing to grow our wonderful school community together. Thank you for being such an important part of what makes Lakewood so special.

Stallion Strong,

Principal Thompson

Technology Expectations for the School Day

We have attached a short overview of our campus expectations for technology and personal devices. Our goal is to ensure that technology supports learning while also helping students stay focused and engaged throughout the school day.

Students may not have personal smart devices on their person during the school day. This includes smart watches, Gabb watches, cell phones, AirPods, or any device capable of messaging, calling, or internet access. If a student brings a device to school, it will be collected by the homeroom teacher at the start of the day and securely stored until dismissal.

These expectations help create a focused learning environment, reduce distractions, and support positive peer interactions. The attached document includes additional details about procedures and expectations for both school issued and personal devices.

Bond 2026 Update

How was the bond package developed?

The process to develop a new bond proposal started in October 2024 with long-range master planning. Trustees appointed individuals in February 2025 to be part of a Citizens Bond Steering Committee, which then met throughout the year. In December, each trustee held a meeting with their constituents to receive additional input, then participated in meetings with the district's administration to discuss the committee's recommendations. All totaled, more than 65 meetings, including pop-up events, were held to receive input and feedback on the recommendations. Click here for a timeline of the process.

More FAQ answers available from DISD here.

Attention Parents of 5th Grade Students

We are asking all families of current 5th graders who plan to attend J.L. Long to complete a quick digital form. This helps us ensure accurate staffing and resource planning so we can provide the best possible experience for your students. Click the flyer above to complete the form.

DISD Summer Cool 2026 Registration

DISD has officially released registration for Summer Cool. Summer Cool is a district program that combines academic acceleration with creativity, exploration, and enrichment while also supporting students’ social and emotional well being.

Summer Cool will run Monday, June 1 through Thursday, June 25. There will be no programming on Fridays. Program hours are 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM.
Families may register for any DISD campus that is hosting Summer Cool. Our feeder pattern host campus is Geneva Heights. Let's Go West! with our 4th graders! Their upcoming production is on Monday, March 9.

Dress: Students should wear Western / Pioneer-style attire—think Little House on the Prairie. This can include prairie dresses, bonnets, suspenders, plaid shirts, jeans, boots, vests, bandanas, etc. Costumes do not need to be elaborate—simple and creative works perfectly. If your child has a principal role, they should consider their character’s specific look. Reach out to Mr. Reich or Ms. Ramirez if you have questions or need help.

Arrival:

  • 5:00 PM show (4B, 4D, 4G) arrive in the cafeteria between 4:30–4:45 PM.

  • 6:30 PM show (4A, 4C, 4E, 4F) arrive in the cafeteria between 6:00–6:15 PM.

Shows are approximately 30 minutes long.

Important Reminder about SB9 Parent Opt In Forms

Earlier this year, Dallas ISD emailed families an SB9 Opt in Parent Consent Form. If you have not already done so, please take a moment to check your email and complete the form.

The district provides age-appropriate health and safety lessons aligned to Senate Bill 9 standards, including topics such as personal safety, prevention of child abuse, family and dating violence, and other safety related instruction. Lessons are carefully reviewed by the Dallas ISD School Health Advisory Council and are tailored to each grade level.

Students will only participate in this instruction if a parent or guardian opts them in. Students who are not opted in will receive an alternative lesson during that time.

You can review the curriculum by grade level here. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Coach Coleman at lycoleman@dallasisd.org.

Thank you for taking a few minutes to review and submit your preference.
