Message from Principal Thompson

Stallion Families,

Thank you so much for your support and patience as we wrap up a successful WEEK 1 of the 2022-2023 school year!! We have loved hearing the laughter and learning echo throughout our happy hallways again. Big thank you to all the parents, teachers, and staff who have made such a strong start possible. The Lakewood community is truly what makes our school so special.

Thank you as well for your continued patience as we focus on adjusting and improving our school-wide systems. A new school year always means a few weeks of adjusting as we settle into the routine once again for a fabulous year. Please make sure to review the drop-off and pick-up guidelines below so we keep our Stallions safe getting in and out of school. Also, don't miss our great news about Lakewood's overall academic performance and progress!

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS
TEA Accountability & Ratings Summary

We are proud to share some exciting news regarding Lakewood Elementary’s overall academic performance and progress. As you may know, our state hasn’t rated campuses after 2019 due to COVID-19 interruptions. In 2019 our campus earned a rating of “B” on our state report card, and we have held this rating since. On Monday, not only did we learn our campus has achieved an “A” rating by the state, but we have shown growth in almost all academic and local accountability measures compared to 2019, effectively eliminating any learned loss due to the pandemic. Thank you to our amazing teachers and staff who have shown a relentless commitment to excellence in the face of adversity, as well as our wonderful stallions and families for their hard work! Please see the compared Accountability Rating Summaries below from 2019 and 2022. For more information and definitions of terms, please click here

Additional Notes From Your FOL Crossing Guards

Please help us have a safe year of drop offs and street crossings by remembering and following these simple rules above about Hillbrook and the following:

Back of School on Wendover

If you are pulling over to the curb on Wendover to drop off kids, that’s fine. Please do not pull over to drop off in the designated bus lanes. And more importantly, do not stop your car in the middle of the street to let your child out in front of a designated crosswalk. This is illegal and not courteous to other drivers behind you. Kids should always exit vehicles on the sidewalk side and avoid being in the traffic lane.

Sondra Hill

There is only one crosswalk at the top of Sondra hill designated for student crossing each morning. This is the one where our DISD crossing guard is assigned. Please also remember that having students exit your vehicle while waiting on the Sondra hill is unsafe and against our policy. Please only allow your kids to exit in designated drop-off lanes or street parking spaces.

*Our FOL Crossing Guard team is looking for a few new dads willing to volunteer their time keeping our students safe. If you are interested, please contact louis.adams@sbcglobal.net.

Please note that Parent Info Night is for Parents and Guardians only. Teachers will share information about the grade-level expectations, logistics and more. Due to spacing issues, please limit attendance of this event to one parent or guardian. You may enter through the main doors. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to seeing you at your designated day and time!
