A Message from Principal Thompson

Dear Parents,

With heavy hearts, Lakewood Elementary joins in mourning the loss of those killed in the tragic shootings in Nashville, Tennessee earlier this week. We turn our thoughts to the families of the victims and hope for full healing for the countless others negatively impacted by this horrific event. Without a doubt, the challenges facing our communities today weigh heavily on students, parents, as well as our staff. School safety is a responsibility that we all share. This is not an issue that we take lightly, and it will remain our top priority.

As a Lakewood family, we want to assure you that we will continue to practice our building security protocols and student lock down drills with fidelity and reevaluate our procedures as needed. We take very deliberate steps every day to ensure that our children are safe. With the help of our parents and community, we continue to reinforce the use of the following precautions:

  • Controlled, monitored entrances to our building with parent guests and volunteers checking at the front office at all times.
  • Video surveillance system to monitor grounds
  • Volunteer background check in VOLY prior to volunteering in building
  • Front office check-in system (Raptor System Technologies and ID) to verify identification and screen for sex offenders
  • PikMyKid dismissal system to secure students at pick-up location and notify parents of dismissal
  • Controlled, monitored front entrance with locked secondary security doors for entry from foyer.
  • All staff and district employees must have visible badges at all times
  • Staff monitoring hallways throughout the day
  • Lockblocks on every classroom door to immediately secure the room from the inside in the event of an emergency
  • Daily perimeter and door checks outside of the building
  • Locked exterior doors accessible only by electronic keycard or front door buzzer
  • Perimeter fencing on Wendover to secure the campus grounds
  • Regular safety drills to prepare for emergencies.
  • District and State-performed campus safety checks

Please know our Lakewood team is committed to protecting all of our children with all that we have. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team with any concerns, questions or thoughts.

Stallion Strong,

Principal Thompson and Lakewood Administration Team

Need Fifth Grade Photos and Quote for Yearbook- Due 4/14!!!!

Hey Fifth Grade Parents!

Yearbook committee here. As we ramp up to the end of the year and the LAST one for our fifth graders, we need a few things from you guys!

1. We need photos of your fifth grader! We need flashbacks, candids, fifth-grade trip, and any other ones you deem fit once you see the folders. Here’s where they need to go, and how to upload them:

- Click on this link and login into your TreeRing account. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN ACCOUNT, you’ll need to start one, using this same link. The Lakewood code is 1016003731184401

- You will be in the content section and able to see the various folders. Go into the folder you want (ex: 5th Grade Candids), and click "Add Photos" in the top right. You can add photos from a computer, Facebook, Instagram, etc. So add away!

2. The second thing we need is a short quote from your 5th grader that centers on their future. What do they want to be? What do they hope to achieve? Have them fill out this google form.

PLEASE HAVE ALL MATERIALS TO US BY APRIL 14th!!!!!!!!!  If you submit them after that, unfortunately, we won’t be able to put them in the yearbook.

Thanks, everyone! Can’t believe we have almost junior high kids! Send any questions our way,

Sloan Dix (looneyes@gmail.com) and Carissa Byers

The cast and crew would like to encourage families with younger kids to attend the Friday afternoon performance and not have a late evening, but all families are welcome at any performance April 12-14th. Break a leg, 5th graders!
