Happy September Lakewood! You all took my PTA Membership Challenge of 200 members and blew through it to 686 members! That number is still short of last year's membership but I know we can get there. Only need about 100 more. Consider joining our PTA today! I want to say thank you for the generous contributions we have already received in our Stallion Strong campaign. I have seen firsthand the willingness our community has to invest in our school, staff and students. The success of our PTA programs is directly tied to family support through fundraisers like Stallion Strong. Donations to Stallion Strong Campaign are the foundation of the 2025-26 budget, a budget that was voted on by our PTA Members (if you join the PTA you can vote, too!). We have a little over 2 weeks left in the campaign and I know we can reach our goal that is needed to fund things like field trips, musical and theater performances, Fall Fest, Roller Skating, LOLA, staff appreciation, Dual Language, movie night, I could keep going... Please take a look at the PTA Fundraising Dollars at work and see first hand where your donations are going THIS YEAR. Kinder and 3rd are in the lead with participation but all it takes is a small donation to count as participation. The other grades can easily catch up to them. Fifth grade, let's go out in style, PJ style, and win the participation race. I am passionate about helping the school, the staff and the students. I want the absolute best for Lakewood Elementary. Can you please join me in donating to Stallion Strong (and join our PTA while you are at it!)? If you have any questions about how we use our funds or the PTA budget, please email president@lakewoodelementary.net.
With appreciation, Shannon Stuart, PTA President |
Individual School Picture Day is TOMRROW! Stallions may wear free dress for these individual pictures. Class pictures will be taken in the spring. |

Kinder and 3rd are starting off strong! A quick online donation is all it takes! Stallion Strong helps fund all the activities and programs that make Lakewood shine and provides critical support to our teachers and staff. Suggested giving: $150 per student Goal: 100% participation—every gift, at any level, makes a difference. $150 per student earns a yard sign! Donate before 9/15 and we will deliver it to you! Bonus! This year, families who give at the $500 level will receive TWO custom Lakewood Elementary folding chairs—exclusive to Stallion Strong AND be entered into a drawing for a custom mahjong mat and tile set! Pro tip: contributions from grandparents, relatives, and friends all count toward your family’s total! |

| Have you ever heard about the SBDM Committee a.k.a. The Site Based Decision Making Committee? This is an appointed/elected group of teachers, parents, and community members who advise Principal Thompson and her leadership team in the planning and decision-making process to improve student achievement as outlined by state policy and district policy.
The SBDM Committee advises the Principal in the following five areas: - Goal Setting
- Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment
- Budgeting
- Staffing Patterns
- School Organization
Additionally, as school related issues occur or school activities and initiatives evolve, the SBDM Committee may authorize a sub-committee to resolve the issue or implement the activity and initiative.
Communicating directly with your child’s teacher and Assistant Principal is always recommended as your first line of inquiry. Should you have more general questions or comments related to the topics above, you can email sbdm@lakewoodelementary.net.
The SBDM does host two open meetings a year for any member of the community to attend- one in October and one in April. Meeting dates and past minutes are posted on our website and kept up to date in eNews. On occasion, dates change, and those notices are also included in eNews with as much advance notice as possible. |

| September Attendance Awareness Month September is Attendance Awareness Month, a time for individuals and organizations to learn about attendance issues, absenteeism, and the effects attendance can have on academic performance and success. School attendance is essential to academic success, but too often, students, parents, and schools don’t realize how quickly absences, excused or unexcused, can add up to academic trouble. Chronic absence—missing just 18 days per school year—can lead to third-graders being unable to master reading, sixth-graders failing courses, and ninth-graders dropping out of high school. |

- Please remain in the carpool line until you reach Hillbrook and then choose either the Red Lane or the Blue Lane (closest to school).
- Do not block streets, neighbors’ driveways, or alleyways.
- Show courtesy and patience to other drivers and our community members.
Thank you for helping us keep our students safe and for being considerate of our neighbors who share this space with us each day. |

Message from Nurse Kyker: Important – Consent Needed for School Health Services Under Texas Senate Bill 12, the school nurse and staff must have written permission from a parent or guardian before providing a student with any health-related services—this includes things as simple as checking their temperature or giving first aid. The only time care can be given without written consent is in a life-threatening emergency. Parents are asked to complete the annual Health-Related Services consent form to ensure their child can receive care when needed. |
