Dear Stallion Families,

We have officially started the last nine weeks of the 2025-26 school year.  I am so proud of the events we have supported as a PTA and community this semester. We had 3 show-stopping performances by 3rd grade, Kindergarten, and 4th grade, and we are looking forward to the Broadway performance of CATS in May.  Students, from 2nd to 5th grade, glided across the gym floor during 3 weeks of roller skating.  The students had the best time showcasing and learning about different countries and cultures during our Multicultural Day. It was an event the students couldn't stop talking about. We welcomed our future Stallions at Kinder Round Up and saw their excitement for starting school and being a part of this amazing community. I remember our first Kinder Round Up, which feels like yesterday, but I am preparing for a 5th Grade Clap Out. A curious and creative LOLA Night allowed families to enjoy crafts, bugs and music.  April and May are always busy with testing, showcases, and sports, but we will keep you informed and organized, so you can enjoy these last 2 months of school.

The biggest, SOLD OUT, night on our calendar is coming up on April 18—House Party at Birdie's Eastside presented by Skylar Champion Real Estate Group. It is a night of food, dancing, karaoke, games, and most importantly, BIDDING!! In order to do all the fun events the PTA sponsors - fund field trips, shower our staff with appreciation, and continue to make Lakewood Elementary the top school in DISD and the State of Texas, we need your support! We need you to bid on auction items, buy sign up party tickets, bid on Teacher of the Day (every teacher is participating this year!), get those reserved spots (is someone going to outbid me for my parking spot?), and bid on the vacation homes. Don't forget, we have a RAFFLE!! Lakewood loves a golf cart, and you can win one! Think how easy school drop off and pick up would be in a golf cart. Buy your raffle tickets today and get ready to bid when the auction opens up.

I want to take a moment to sincerely thank each of you for your continued support of our school community. Your involvement, generosity, and enthusiasm make such a meaningful difference for our students, staff, and me.  I couldn't do this role of President without all of you, your support and encouragement have meant so much.

With appreciation for our Stallion family,
Shannon Stuart, PTA President

Registration for the '26-'27 school year is OPEN!

Our elementary school is an award winning part of DISD, and we want to make sure every student gets the best start possible! Class sizes can shift from year to year, so the sooner you complete your enrollment, the better the district and our school administration team can prepare and make sure we have amazing teachers ready to welcome your child.

Click here to view the video with guidance on how to complete enrollment.  There is also a flyer below.

Each family will create a SchoolMint account. Your student will be issued an id number that is used throughout their term with DISD. Proof of residency, personal identification, and vaccination information will be uploaded as part of enrollment.

The campus is closed to visitors during STAAR testing.

The Site-Based Decision-Making (SBDM) Committee assists the Principal in designating the campus goals and plan for improvement in five key areas: goal setting, curriculum, budgeting, staffing, and school organization. Additionally, as school related issues occur or school activities and initiatives evolve, the SBDM Committee may authorize a sub-committee to resolve the issue or implement the activity and initiative.  More information about the committee's purpose and operations can be found here.

Typically, members serve up to two years. Next year's committee is in need of 1-2 new members to advise on safety/security and inclusion/belonging. If you are interested in joining the SBDM next year, please email SBDM Chair, Elizabeth Cheek, and plan to attend the April 16th meeting at 5pm in the school library.

RSVP so we know how many chairs to set up.

The White Rock Spring Games, presented by Comerica Bank, are back!

On Sunday, May 3rd, the White Rock Spring Games return to Bishop Lynch High School for another year of fun and fundraising! The Games bring together K thru 5th graders from dozens of East Dallas schools to compete in five fun-filled events while enjoying plenty of great food and other activities. And beginning on March 30th, your kids can officially register here.  The fee for each 4-member team is $160.

Since the first White Rock Spring Games in 2012, over $300,000 has been raised for more than fifty different schools across our neighborhood, and we’re excited to help parents and students add to that total in 2026!

A FEW THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND…

  • 32-TEAM LIMIT PER GENDER PER GRADE.  Please note that participation in the 2026 Games will be limited to 32 teams per gender per grade. (For example, only 32 girls teams from the 3rd Grade will be accepted.)

  • REGISTRATION IS FIRST COME FIRST SERVE.  Absolutely no exceptions to this 32-team limit can be made, so we recommend you register as early as possible to reserve your team’s spot.

  • EVENT TIMES:  Grades K thru 2 will compete from 12:30pm to 3:00pm; Grades 3 thru 5 will compete from 4:00pm to 6:30pm

Please be sure that ALL of your team members are available during the designated time windows before signing up.

The White Rock Spring Games would not happen without the support of our generous sponsors. We are currently seeking sponsor partners for the 2026 games.  If interested, please reach out to tatum@whiterockgames.com.

A heartfelt thank you to our Lakewood Elementary families for your involvement in any way you were able. Because of you, our community has achieved something incredible:

  • Together, 396 families joined in and raised $67,380.32 in lifesaving donations for the American Heart Association to help people everywhere live longer, healthier lives.
  • More than 76 families in our school have learned lifesaving skills like Hands-Only CPR and how to recognize the warning signs of a stroke.

We are proud to bring these healthy habits and lifesaving skills into our community and we couldn’t have done it without you! Thank you for being part of our mission to build healthier hearts, big and small.

What can the Bond money be used for?

By law, bond funds can only be used for "capital" projects (construction and equipment). They cannot be used for the District’s daily operating budget, which includes salaries, utilities, and fuel. Bonds are the only means in Texas to access funding for construction needs.
