Dear Lakewood Families,

The first day of school is almost here, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome our Stallions back! As we prepare to open our doors, I want to take a moment to share our deep gratitude and reflect on the incredible work that’s gone into getting our campus ready.

This year, our theme is “Seeds of Change.” It’s a reminder that the small things we plant today whether it's a kind word, a supportive classroom, or a new idea, can grow into something remarkable over time. Our staff and community have already been planting those seeds all summer long.

Our teachers have been working with incredible dedication to create welcoming, engaging classrooms where students will feel safe, challenged, and supported from day one. From planning lessons and attending trainings to setting up every detail of their spaces with care, their commitment shines through.

We’re also incredibly thankful for our parent volunteers who have generously given their time and energy to help us prepare for the year ahead. From organizing supplies to assembling furniture and everything in between, your support has made a visible difference, and we couldn’t do it without you.

Behind the scenes, our custodial and office teams have been working tirelessly to make sure our building is clean, safe, and beautiful. Their efforts have not gone unnoticed, and we’re proud of the care and pride they’ve poured into every corner of our campus.

As we get ready to begin another year together, we are full of hope and optimism for all that lies ahead. Thank you for your partnership, your trust, and your ongoing support of Lakewood. Let’s keep planting seeds together and watch them grow!

We can’t wait to see everyone on the first day. Don't forget the staggered start to welcome our youngest learners first at 7:45!

Stallion Strong,

Principal Thompson

Important ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL info

This year we will continue to use PikmyKid as our dismissal platform. Now is a great time for all families to get their apps set up! Students new to Lakewood will be able to register in the app after 8/3.

Below are some helpful links for families when it comes to registering and using the parent app.

If you don't see your children in the app after 8/3, please email Mr. Campbell at joncampbell@dallasisd.org

'25-'26 Bus Routes

If your child is riding the bus, please email Mr. Campbell the student name and bus route so that he can add it to your student's PikMyKid account.

Using the PikMyKid app, please ensure that you have designated your child's mode of transportation with their bus number, or they will not be boarded on to the bus and you will have to come and pick him or her up from school.

In the mornings, buses will follow their designated routes and drop off at Lakewood. There are staff members on duty to escort and supervise bus riders in the school cafeteria until school starts.

In the afternoons during dismissal, students will go to their designated bus rider's location to be escorted to busses and verified in the PikMyKid App before boarding.

The campus behavior coordinator shall take steps to maintain acceptable student conduct while riding school buses, including the discretion to deny the privilege of school bus transportation.  All Student Code of Conduct Offenses are subject to the same disciplinary actions while riding Dallas ISD provided transportation.  Students are expected to follow bus rules.

Please see additional bus related information here.

Let's start the school year off on the right foot and use the crosswalks and pay attention to the painted curbs!!

Missed the New Family Orientation?  You can find the presentation here.

Donations are still being accepted and can be dropped off at

6819 Santa Maria Lane.

Buses will run as scheduled and 1st-5th students are welcome to enter the cafeteria for breakfast to wait until 8:30.

Get organized for school by ordering your Mabel's Labels now! 20% of proceeds go back to our PTA when you search "Lakewood Elementary PTA" on the site before shopping. Win, win... support the school AND get your items labeled so all lost water bottles and sweatshirts can be identified!

School Supplies

If you ordered supplies from Edukit prior to June 18, they will be in your child's classroom on the first day of school.

If you still need to purchase school supplies for your child, you can access the lists for each grade here so that you purchase the correct items:  Edukit.  Please bring them with you to Meet the Teacher and DO NOT LABEL any of the supplies.

In our ongoing effort to ensure safer schools, Dallas ISD will require clear backpacks for all students in grades K-12. This requirement does not apply to pre-K students.

As an additional option, mesh backpacks will be acceptable, however, clear ones are preferred. Students may carry a small, nonclear pouch in their backpack to hold personal items, such as cell phones, money, and hygiene products. Each student will be provided one durable clear backpack for the year to support families at no cost. Parents may also purchase their students’ clear or mesh backpacks that meet the District’s policy.

A clear backpack policy alone does not ensure complete security. This proactive measure is just one of several updates to enhance student and campus safety. As a reminder, Dallas ISD’s Comprehensive Safety Plan is available at https://www.dallasisd.org/safety.  We encourage everyone to visit the district’s website and social media channels for the latest updates.

Welcome to our new Teachers & Staff!
Welcome, Mr. Rioland, III

We’re excited to welcome Mr. Kenneth Rioland, III as our new third Assistant Principal at Lakewood Elementary, where he will support 2nd and 3rd grades.

Mr. Rioland joins us from MLK Jr. Arts Academy, where he served as a Principal Fellow and Interim AP, leading PLCs, supporting instruction, and helping improve student performance across multiple content areas. Prior to that, he taught Biology and Chemistry at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and served on the Campus Instructional Leadership Team. He began his career at North Dallas High School, where he was named Rookie Teacher of the Year.

Mr. Rioland is currently completing his Master’s in Educational Leadership this August through Texas Tech University and was recognized as a 2023–2024 Dallas ISD Teacher of Promise. He brings a student-centered mindset, strong instructional leadership, and a commitment to building positive school culture.

I am so excited to be kicking off my 12th year of teaching early childhood—and my first year as part of the amazing Lakewood team! Teaching little learners has been my passion for over a decade, and I can’t wait to bring that energy into the classroom again this year.

I’m 36 years old and have been married for almost 5 years to my husband, Ryan. We have a sweet Golden Retriever named Goldie Hawn!

Outside the classroom, you’ll usually find me working out, experimenting in the kitchen, or hunting down new restaurants around Dallas—I’m always up for a good food adventure! I also love to travel and explore new places whenever I get the chance.

I was born and raised in Mexico and moved to the U.S. at the age of 12. I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts Music from Texas Woman’s University in 2006 and pursued graduate courses for a Master of Arts in Guitar Pedagogy in 2011. I spent 10 years as a private guitar instructor at Texas Music Academy. That experience helped me realize how much joy I feel when educating others—it became a steppingstone to the next chapter in my career.

I entered the field of public education in 2014 and have been serving as a bilingual elementary educator in Dallas ISD for the past 12 years.

I’m Scarlett Pencak and I’m thrilled to be joining the Lakewood Elementary community as a kindergarten teacher. I grew up in both Chicago and Los Angeles and recently graduated from Southern Methodist University. Since then, I’ve come to love calling Dallas home.

I’m so excited to meet my students and their families and to share a joyful year of learning together!

I'm so excited to be at Lakewood Elementary!  My name is Amanda McCampbell and this will be my 14th year of teaching.  I LOVE teaching math and my teaching philosophy is centered in small group instruction so that I can grow my students to their potential.  Outside of school I enjoy traveling, trying new restaurants, reading, and watching sports - especially college football!

My name is Ms. Kirchof and I am so excited to be joining Lakewood's first grade team! This will be my third year teaching first grade and my fourth year with DISD. I am very passionate about both teaching and learning. After graduating from SMU with a B.A. in Psychology and a B.S. in Education, I continued my studies at SMU. I earned a Master's Degree in Education specializing in English as a Second Language and Special Education in December 2023.

Hi! I’m Ms. Raizes (pronounced like the thing you want at work) and I’m so excited to join the Lakewood community! I was born and raised in Austin, Texas, and moved to Dallas to attend Southern Methodist University, where I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education.

I’m entering my 10th year of teaching, and I’m passionate about helping students feel valued and confident in their ability to learn and grow. I strive to make learning relevant and meaningful, especially by using technology to meet students where they are and support them in taking ownership of their learning.

Fun fact: I recently got engaged and am extra excited for all the new beginnings this year holds. I can’t wait to meet all the wonderful students and families at Lakewood—it’s going to be a great year!

Hello Lakewood Elementary! I’m thrilled to be joining the fourth grade team.

Originally from New England, I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Communications and Literature from American University. In 2010, I began my teaching journey in Baltimore, MD, as a Teach For America corps member and later earned my Master of Science in Education from Johns Hopkins University.

With 15 years of experience in teaching and coaching literacy, I most recently served as the literacy instructional coach for grades 2–5 on another DISD campus. I’m passionate about helping students grow as confident readers and writers, and I’m looking forward to sharing my love of literacy with the LWE students and families.

Hi everyone! I'm proud to be a Lakewood native, a 2018 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, and a 2022 University of Texas alum with a degree in Child Development – hook'em Horns!

This will be my fourth year teaching, and I'm especially excited to be back home in Lakewood. I'm a big Longhorn fan and love cheering them on during football season. Outside the classroom, I enjoy fun workout classes, spending time with friends and family, and finding the best Tex-Mex around.

Hello everyone! My name is Cara Bogardus, and I am thrilled to join the LWE community this year! I have been teaching third grade for the last thirteen years and absolutely love what I do. I spend most of my time with my husband, my three year old James, and my almost two year old, Julia! We live in Old Lake Highlands and love going to the Arboretum every chance we get.

Hi! I'm Laura Anne Hughes and I'm thrilled to be at Lakewood! I was born and raised in Houston, Texas and attended The University of Texas to study education. Hook 'Em! This will be my 12th year of teaching and my 3rd year in 2nd grade.

Hi I’m Ashleigh Gibbs! I am originally from Alabama where I graduated from The University of Alabama. Roll tide! This will be my fifth-year teaching! I’ve taught fifth grade, second grade, and third grade. I am excited to join the Lakewood family and to have the pleasure of teaching my favorite grade, third grade, for the third year in a row!

Samantha Ingram is a Certified Educator, Early Childhood through 6th Grade. She is passionate about empowering preschool-age children in America. She spent the last 15 years serving children and families and helping the two create a stable reading literacy foundation. Samantha strives to help children build better lives and flourish in all ways possible. She is ever-ready to empower and guide and is an educator on a mission to abolish illiteracy and childhood obesity through active involvement and education.

Samantha holds a Master of Science Degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX.

Above all else, Samantha is a mother and role model to two amazing boys. She uses her professional skills and talents at home to help her sons become active learners. Samantha counts her three-year-old son’s ability to read with fluency and prosody among her most profound achievements.

Hi everyone! I’m Julianna Ramirez, and I’m so excited to be joining the Lakewood Elementary family as one of your music teachers! I graduated from UTA this past fall, and this will be my first official year teaching. I’m all about creating a space where students feel free to explore, create, and have fun with music. Outside of school, you can usually find me at a concert, planning my next trip, or playing games with family and friends! I also recently got engaged, so life’s been full of excitement lately!

Hello Lakewood families. My name is Melissa Vela. I live in Lakewood with my husband, Jason, and 2 daughters, Aly (4th grade) and Izzie (Kinder).  I taught high school math for 12 years and I have been subbing at Lakewood for the last 3 years.  I enjoy reading, traveling, and spending time with my family and friends.
