Dear Lakewood Families,

Welcome to another incredible year at Lakewood Elementary! Whether you are joining our community for the first time or returning for another year as a Stallion, we are so grateful you are here. It is an honor to serve as your principal, and I cannot wait to welcome our students back for a year of learning, leadership, and growth. At Lakewood, we believe every child has unique gifts and the ability to lead. Together, we are committed to helping students discover their strengths, find their voice, and develop the confidence to make a positive impact both inside and outside the classroom.

This year is especially meaningful as we celebrate 75 years of Lakewood Elementary. Our theme — A Legacy of Learning. A Future of Possibilities. — honors the generations of students, families, educators, and community members who have shaped our school while inspiring us to continue building an extraordinary future together.

One of the things that makes Lakewood truly special is the incredible partnership we share with our families and community. Our success has never been the work of our educators alone. It is built on parents who volunteer their time, community members who invest in our students, and families who reinforce learning and leadership at home. Together, we have created a school where children are known, supported, challenged, and celebrated. That strong partnership is one of our greatest strengths, and I am deeply grateful to be part of a community that believes so wholeheartedly in its children.

Our work is guided by our shared vision and mission.

Our Vision
We are a community of leaders, valued individuals,
and problem solvers who advocate for all.

Our Mission
As a Lakewood Leader, I embrace effort and rise when I fall,
exhibit empathy, and celebrate diversity.

These are more than statements. They shape our decisions, our relationships, and our commitment to ensuring every student feels a sense of belonging while reaching their highest potential.

Thank you for trusting us with your children. As we celebrate this milestone year, I hope we also celebrate the legacy we are creating together. Every encouraging conversation, every act of kindness, every challenge overcome, and every success celebrated becomes part of Lakewood's story. Together, we will continue building a school where students not only achieve at high levels but also grow into compassionate leaders who are prepared to shape the future.

We are excited for an incredible year ahead and look forward to partnering with you every step of the way.

Stallion Strong,

Principal Thompson

About Principal Thompson

Lakewood Elementary School will be celebrating our 75th Anniversary this year! Guided by this year’s theme — A Legacy of Learning. A Future of Possibilities. — we'll celebrate this milestone all school-year long with special events and meaningful moments throughout our Stallions’ school days.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, we will have a school open house on Saturday, November 7th in conjunction with the LECPTA's 50th Anniversary Home Tour, where community members can come and tour the school. We will also have an event at the school during the school day on Friday, November 13th, where students and staff will participate in special celebratory activities. More details to come!

Teacher Assignment Updates

I know many of you are eagerly awaiting news of your child's teacher assignment. Our team is working diligently to finalize class placements, and we anticipate teacher assignments being available in the PowerSchool Parent Portal by Friday, July 31 prior to Meet the Teacher on Thursday, August 6. The process takes a few days so some classes could be available sooner. If your contact information is current in PowerSchool, you may also receive a welcome email from your child's teacher once our teachers return on August 3rd. Our new to Lakewood Kindergarten families won't have their PowerSchool accounts created just yet, so anticipate a phone call from your teacher prior to Meet the Teacher Night.

The process of creating balanced classroom rosters is one of the most thoughtful and important tasks we undertake each summer. We take a holistic approach when placing students, carefully considering academic needs, social emotional factors, learning styles, and classroom balance to create the best possible learning environment for every child. As a reminder, we are unable to honor requests for specific teachers.

Should you have concerns about your child's classroom placement once school begins, we ask that you first reach out directly to your child's teacher. At Lakewood, we value strong partnerships with families and believe that open communication and collaboration are the foundation for supporting every student's success. If, after working with the teacher, you continue to have concerns, please contact your child's grade level administrator.

Welcome, Ms. Noguez!

I hope you are enjoying the last few weeks of summer and gearing up for a wonderful school year! We have lots of exciting information coming your way in our newsletter at the end of the week, but I wanted to share one important update with you today.

As some of you may know, Assistant Principal Martinez has accepted a new professional opportunity. While we will certainly miss her, we are incredibly grateful for the dedication, care, and leadership she brought to Lakewood during her time with us. We wish her nothing but the very best as she begins this next chapter.

One of the greatest responsibilities I have as principal is selecting leaders who will serve our students, staff, and families well. After an extensive and highly competitive interview process, I am excited to introduce Assistant Principal Noguez as the newest member of our Lakewood leadership team!

Ms. Noguez will serve as the Assistant Principal supporting 1st Grade, 3rd Grade, and our Specials teams, while also leading our Dual Language Program. While Ms. Noguez brings more than a decade of experience in education, including serving as an Early Learning Lead Teacher with Dallas ISD's SRI+ program and most recently as Assistant Principal at Venus Elementary, what stood out most to me throughout the interview process wasn't simply her experience. It was the way she leads.

From our very first conversations, she demonstrated remarkable authenticity, humility, and a genuine commitment to continuous growth. She came exceptionally prepared, welcomed feedback with openness, and consistently viewed every discussion through the lens of what is best for students. Her instructional expertise, passion for developing teachers, and unwavering belief that every child can succeed made it clear that she would be an outstanding addition to our leadership team. Ms. Noguez believes that a strong educational foundation, paired with a supportive school community, gives children the confidence to achieve anything. She leads with empathy, collaboration, and joy, and values strong partnerships with families because she knows our greatest success comes when we work together on behalf of children.

Outside of school, Ms. Noguez enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter. Together they love traveling, exploring new cultures, and discovering new restaurants and cuisines.

Please join me in giving Ms. Noguez (rnoguez@dallasisd.org) a warm Lakewood welcome! I know you will quickly discover what I did throughout the hiring process: she is a thoughtful leader, an outstanding educator, and someone who is deeply committed to serving every child and family in our community. We are incredibly fortunate to have her join our Stallion family! Please see a link to her profile and letter to our community below.

Stallion Strong,
Principal Thompson
